All Soul's Day

Flowers and candles are the most popular items on All Soul's Day. Baguio City prepares for it by having stalls lined up along Harrison Road right beside Burnham Park showcasing flowers, flower arrangements, and candles of all colors and shapes.

The Athletic Bowl

This is one area of Burnham Park that I haven't visited for the longest time. Once upon a time, I got hooked into tennis and I played in the tennis courts here for a couple of times. It was really nice playing here, with the cool weather and all. The tennis court is located at the far right of this photo (and the entrance to the grounds is here as well). In the mornings, joggers would round the circuit. I have never completed one lap; it's just too wide!

At the foreground is a vacant lot; this was where the National Library used to stand. Back in high school, we used to run here to catch an hour or a half of reading time. Yep, were were quite nerdy in those days!

The single-floor structure was entirely made of wood. When you enter the library, lots of people would be at the periodicals section, while some students would be crouching on tables, reading and researching. I loved reading crafts books and encyclopedias here. In fact this was where I got the idea of soap carving for a school project and I discovered that I wasn't that bad at all at carving.

Ah, the smell of the library and the books! It was wonderful. Alas, it did not survive the earthquake of 1990. The salvaged books were temporarily housed in the City Hall. And then a two-storey cement structure was built near the Children's Park, and that is where the Library stands today. It does not have the character the old library has, but thankfully the public library was resurrected for readers to enjoy.
